Huge congratulations to Mrs Connor-Earl for completing the 106KM Isle of Wight Challenge in a very impressive 22 hours and 36 minutes! This time was 9 minutes faster than last year’s challenge, despite the walk being 6km longer.

“I found this challenge extremely tough, but the incredible donations from the St Mary’s pupils, parents and parish buoyed my resilience and helped to keep me going through the night. Watching the sunrise from the clifftop was breathtaking and made the blisters, stiff muscles and lack of sleep all worthwhile.

Thank you so much to everyone for their support and generosity. I was inspired to complete the walk when I was told by Little Village, the School’s charity, that their free accommodation was no longer going to be available. They now have new premises which increases their outgoings to £1,000 a month while also continuing to support 70 families across North London who are living below the poverty line. I’m absolutely overjoyed that we’ve raised well over £2,000 for the children in our community who need our help.”

Little Village opened its Camden branch in early 2017. Its goal is to provide good quality baby clothes and equipment to local families. Founded by a group of local parents, the charity is run as an entirely voluntary enterprise.

Mrs Connor-Earl's 106km Isle of Wight Challenge

Mrs Connor-Earl is swapping her heels for walking shoes once again! This year, her challenge is to continuously walk around the Isle of Wight in just 24 hours.

Inspired by the children’s fundraising efforts, Mrs Connor-Earl will be joining over 2,000 adventurers who will be taking on the 106km Full Island Challenge on the 5th/6th May. Although the coastal path is stunning, this is an endurance event and Mrs Connor-Earl has been training hard during the holidays to prepare for the challenge.

We would be so grateful if you could help her raise as much money as possible in aid of the School’s local charity, Little Village. Please donate through our JustGiving page:

“We change our tables not only every day, but twice a day!”

St Mary’s School is currently investing in an extensive refurbishment programme to deliver the most up-to-date and engaging facilities. The aim is to integrate the latest technology and teaching aids and for the spacious classrooms to be flooded with natural light.

Headmistress Mrs Connor-Earl commented: “In my office, I have three separate work areas. My stand up desk is used to complete tasks such as analysing student data. I will then use the more traditional sit down desk to write congratulations cards to the girls and boys. The sofa is where everyone gravitates when hosting my Book Club. We, as adults, use different seating for different tasks to improve our concentration and efficiency.’

“So, when designing our new classrooms, I wanted to include a variety of learning spaces. Gone are name labels stuck to an assigned desk. Pupils can now choose between soft staged seating, a stand up desk or a collaborative working pod. All the furniture is flexible and can be moved easily. This allows teachers to group the children in varied ways according to the lesson. It follows that if you feel comfortable at your work station, you are going to work better and more effectively.”

After using the new space for a few weeks, one Year 4 pupil said, “We change our tables not only every day, but twice a day!”

We can’t wait to welcome the girls into the next set of new classrooms after the Easter holidays.

    2017 Good Schools Guide

"A non-selective school, it still manages to pull off high-flying results at 11. Teaching is ‘excellent’ - sharp, lively and very pupil focused."

The New St Mary's Way Song

Prize Giving was a wonderful occasion to hear the new St Mary's Way song. The girls sang it so beautifully by the girls and the lyrics truly embody our School ethos and values:

It’s the St. Mary’s Hampstead way,

To live our lives with love each day,

To give all that we can and try our best:

Sets us apart from all the rest!

We learn to be kind, and share, and have fun.

We see the good inside of everyone.

    We’re respectful, resilient, we’re risk-takers.

We reflect in our Chapel, we’re peace makers.

It’s the St. Mary’s Hampstead way,

To live our lives with love each day,

To give all that we can and try our best:

Huge congratulations to Mrs Connor-Earl on completing the 100KM London to Brighton Challenge in just 22 hours and 45 minutes!

“I found the challenge of walking non-stop through the night really tough. But, the view when I reached the top of the Downs just before sunrise was absolutely stunning and made the blisters and lack of sleep all worthwhile.

Thank you so much for to everyone for their support and incredibly generous donations. I’m overjoyed that we’ve raised over £3,000 for Doorstep and Save the Children which far exceeds my original target.”

Congratulations to everyone who competed and special thanks to Mrs Rimini for her tireless dedication to the gymnastics team.”

    Welcome to Bishop Nicholas Hudson

We were honoured and privileged to welcome Bishop Nicholas Hudson to St Mary’s School this week. Bishop Nicholas was ordained Auxiliary Bishop for the Diocese of Westminster in June 2014 and has responsibility for the pastoral care of Central and East London.

The Bishop was particularly impressed that his tour of the School was led by Year 6 pupils and was touched to hear how much they will miss it next year. He also enjoyed meeting the School’s new starters in Nursery and hearing about how the children were celebrating Mary Ward week.

Mrs Connor-Earl commented: “We were delighted that Bishop Nicholas visited St Mary’s School. The visit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase everyone’s hard work and share news about our new initiatives such as The After School Club. We thank him for supporting St Mary’s School and for the time he dedicated to the pupils and staff. It was a truly memorable and inspiring occasion that the whole School will remember for a long time.”

The Year 6 girls were excellent in Hagbane's Doom. Not only did they perform to the highest standard but the lighting, costumes and props were all exceptional. Both nights ended with standing ovations! Many thanks to all the staff who were involved and a special thank you to Ms Day for all of her efforts!
