St Mary’s celebrated its annual International Day on Friday 9th May with a fabulous Food Festival that brought together pupils, staff, and families for an afternoon of flavour, culture, and community spirit.
Dressed in cultural attire or the colours of national flags, the school community came together to honour the diverse backgrounds that make St Mary’s so unique.
The school grounds buzzed with excitement as families visited colourful stalls offering an incredible variety of dishes – all homemade. From sushi to scones, jerk chicken to pizza, there was something for everybody. For many pupils, it was a chance to taste foods they’d never tried before and learn about the stories behind them.
Alongside the culinary delights, we enjoyed lively conversations about cultural heritage and traditional dress. One Year 5 pupil said: “I loved trying food from countries I’ve never been to. I even learned how to say ‘thank you’ in four languages.”
Ms d’Aquino, Deputy Head, commented on the event: The St. Mary’s Food Festival beautifully captures the wide diversity within our community, offering every girl a meaningful opportunity to share their unique cultural heritage, and we are deeply grateful to all the parents whose support, time, and delicious contributions made this celebration so special. We look forward to working in partnership with our community to curate the Food Festival 2026!
A joyful reminder of the power of food to bring people together.
